Discipline is an act of self-care
We are constantly reminded to practice self-care and I agree it’s a non-negotiable. Often, however, I think the vibe of self-care comes off as all these extra things that require you to spend money or put your life on hold (hi, kids, Mom’s not available right now!). I think there are some fabulous options for self-care that do include those things, but more than that, I think discipline is an act of self-care.
What I mean is the basics of daily living that are often the first to go when we’re busy. Often, these are the very things that will help life feel immeasurably more manageable though.
Eating food that makes you feel your best.
Going for a quick walk to stretch your legs and get some sun or whatever gentle exercise looks like for you.
Taking a shower.
Doing your laundry.
Tidying your house.
Not bingeing the Netflix series, TikTok/social media content, or your favorite ice cream/snack.
Saying no when we’re stretched thin, even if it’s something we really want to do.
Being honest with ourselves about our own capacity.
Self-care should make us feel like the best version of ourselves.
What does self-care look like for you?
